Hot new hotels: The Sanchaya, Bintan, Indonesia
Call it reading the fine print. Some hospitality projects require designers to have more than just a good eye for detail—it’s a question of starting with those small elements and using them to craft the larger design statement. Revamp: Mahekal Beach Resort, Playa del Carmen
"By the book" might sound like a dated design approach, but the team behind Playa Del Carmen’s 122-key (rooms are located in individual thatched roof bungalows) Mahekal Beach Resort did just that for the property’s US$10 million "re-imagination." The book in question was“GypSet Style” by Julia Chaplin.
