Hot new hotels: Valsana Hotel, Arosa

Opening today is the Valsana Hotel, an eco-friendly boutique hotel to be heated by geothermal probes and an high-tech ice-battery - a first for Switzerland. The hotel is owned by the Tschuggen Hotel Group, which also operates the grande dame hotels  Tschuggen Grand Arosa and the Carlton St Moritz.

According to the Tschuggen Group, the ice battery is an energy recovery system that utilises waste heat energy from devices such as kitchen appliances and air conditioning units into an 850m3 water tank connected to a 400m register of pipes to heat the property. The property is also equipped with an electric vehicle charging station.

The Valsana is spread across three new buildings with 40 spacious double rooms and suites, nine serviced apartments and open plan public areas which include the lobby, lounge, and restaurant Twist, complete with an outdoor terrace where patrons can dine lakeside. A spa will offer saunas, a steam bath, and a pool. The hotel is a short walk from the ski lift and has its own bike and ski shop.

Architect Roman Mooser uses eco-friendly materials for the building, while interior designer and Ascona native Carlo Rampazzi selected furnishings and décor that match the hotel’s eco-conscious ethos. A relaxed atmosphere is ceated with vintage record players in the rooms, hammocks on the balconies and weekly film nights.
