On the edge of the astonishingly beautiful Gerês mountain range and the city of Braga is this historic design hotel. The Pousada Santa Maria do Bouro rises from transformation of a Cistercian monastery from the 12th century, becoming one of the most relevant pieces of Portuguese architecture. Designed by Pritzker-price winning architect Eduardo Souta da Mora you will find a superb and unique contrast between the magical pieces and historic ambiance in clear consonance with modern times.

The hotel offers mininalistic decorated rooms (22-25m2) with huge windows set in thick stone walls offering panoramic views. Room facilities include air conditioning, a cable TV, minibar and en suite bathroom.

Drinks from the hotel bar and Portuguese dishes from the restaurant can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the gardens or in the serene courtyard.

Outdoor swimming pool and tennis court.

If you need some peace and quiet, come here. It's breathtakingly beautiful how architect Eduardo Souto Moura transformed this gone-to-ashes Cistercian monastery into a minimalist Zen heaven. Please people, leave your children at home. Nothing to do here! Read a book on the mighty terrace or at the pool, next to the fireplace or some forgotten corner. Heaven. Eat, drink, do nothing. Admire the views, the building, the simple lines of your bedroom. Come to think of it, bring nothing at all. A monk's pie is more then enough.
