Set in an iconic Art Deco Tower, the Sunset Tower Hotel is one of Hollywood's most famous hotels. The building was originally an apartment building and opened in a commanding position in 1931 on Sunset Boulevard. After a period of decline in the early 1980s, the building was renovated and has been operated as a luxury hotel under the names The St. James's Club and The Argyle. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The exterior is decorated with plaster friezes of plants, animals, zeppelins, mythological creatures and Adam and Eve.
Rooms feature muted, earth-toned interiors and have floor-to-ceiling windows boasting panoramic views of Los Angeles. Room facilities include a flat-screen TV, an iPod dock, a minibar, and high-end Egyptian linens. Nightly turndown service includes freshly baked cookies.
There is a rooftop swimming pool and the spa includes a Turkish hammam, a hair salon and a fitness center. The Tower Bar and Restaurant is a clubby, classic eatery on the site of what used to be the apartment belonging to the gangster Bugsy Siegel. The Terrace is a poolside café open for breakfast and lunch. A complimentary breakfast is included in the rate.
