Pestana Palácio do Freixo - Pousada & National Monument
A national monument, Pestana Palácio do Freixo was designed by the architect Nicolau Nasoni and built in the mid 18th-century and is a remarkable example of Portuguese architecture from the baroque period. The hotel's Versailles-style gardens are bordering directly on the Douro River. Porto's city centre can be reached by the free hotel shuttle.
The contemporary and spacious (30-70m2) rooms and suites are located in the former Harmonia Flour Factory, which is interconnected with the palace. Room facilities include air-conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a work desk, and a safe. Some rooms boast magnificent views over the river Douro.
The palace houses the elegant restaurant, bar, and the extensive lobby and lounge areas, which are luxurious in design and are appointed with marble and stone flooring, period furniture and antiques.
Guests can enjoy leisure facilities, such as indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a sauna, a steam room or take a relaxing massage.
