Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita offers unique boutique accommodation in the "Sassi" (caves) area of UNESCO World Heritage Listed Matera. The hotel exudes tranquility, calm and romance.
Fresh fruit and a jug of cool water are awaiting guests upon arrival in the rooms. Rooms are decorated in a rustic style with antique furnishings. The bare "tufa" stone walls are highlighted by candlelite. Modern conveniences include air-conditioning and some rooms have free standing baths. Toiletries are locally made. In-room massages are offered.
An extensive complimentary breakfast is taken in The Tasting Room, a traditional Italian restaurant set on the grounds of a 13th-century church and also open for lunch and dinner. The chef uses the finest produce the region has to offer - cured meats, Mediterranean vegetables, cheeses and fresh fruit. There is also plentiful supply of delicious local wines.
Staff can organize candlelit dinners, cooking lessons and wine and tea tastings.
