The Modern Honolulu is a stylish design hotel, located less than a 10-minute walk from the Ala Moana shopping center. The hotel is overlooking the marina and Pacific ocean, 1 mile from Waikiki Beach. The decor is white-on-white by Yabu & Pushelberg and the landscaped tropical gardens are by Deborah Nevins.
The sleek rooms and suites feature Italian linens, custom beds, 46" flat-screen TVs and marble bathrooms with complimentary toiletries by Lather. iPods and iPads pre-programmed with Hawaiian music and apps are available on request. Rooms come with city, harbor, pool, or ocean views and most feature private balconies.
The popular Morimoto Waikiki, owned by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, features a fresh sushi bar and views of the water. There are no less than 5 bars: Morimoto has it's own, and two can be found at each of the two pools. The Lobby Bar hides during the day behind the rotating bookcase in reception and only reveals its giant sofas, low lights and custom cocktails at 6pm. "Addiction" in the hotel's industrial-style nightclub.
The marina-facing Sunrise Pool is surrounded by teak decking and sunloungers, with giant squashy day-beds and picnic tables in a tropical garden. The oceanfront Sunset Pool is a lantern-lit adults-only plunge with an adjacent cocktail bar. The hotel has a full-service spa and a fitness center.
