Back to school: full marks

The Hotel da Estrela is located in a quiet, somewhat offbeat location on the edges of the Estrela and Campo de Ourique neighboourhoods. That sets the tone for this small boutique hotel, which itself is offbeat and quirky. The theme is \'school\' and this story is carried out throughout the hotel, without getting to much in your face. Upon arrival the chalkboard behind the reception desk is greeting you with your name written on it. After checking in they wipe it out, just like in school. Speaking of reception, the staff checking in and out, and throughout the hotel, were very friendly and relaxed, unlike the stuffiness often found at these high end hotels. Staff are often from the next door school of hospitality. My standard double room was not so standard: a (very comfortable) bed was placed irregular in the room, with gave extra space for the bathroom which had room for a similar irregular placed bath. The school theme in the room included touches like carpets inspired by a chalkboard with drawings and an information booklet designed liked a children\'s notebook. The restaurant is styled after a school cantine, but with a far better menu. You pay within limits of satisfaction, but there doesn\'t seem to be a fail note... In all, a very relaxed place which does not try to hart to get good grades. Seems they passed already. Will be back!
