Sofitel's entry for Vienna is a cutting-edge design hotel by Jean Nouvel. No art nouveau or Wiener Schnitzel here, but sleek and minimal guestrooms, floating cantilver roofs, video-animated ceilings and a magnificent vertical garden.
Although the hotel's name suggest it is located near the St. Stephan's Cathedral, it is actually a 12-minute walk. Many rooms however have views of the cathedral (or the giant Prater Ferris wheel, and even the Vienna Woods).
Echoing the hotel's sleek exteriors, the stark, ultra-modern rooms are decorated in a monochromatic white, cool grey or velvety black. They come with flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines, Bose sound systems, iPod docking stations, minibars, rainfall showerheads and fabulous views (the higher up, the better). Selected rooms have whirlpool tubs or steam rooms. Room service is available.
Take in the most breath-taking of views from the top-floor, glass-encased Le LOFT Restaurant, Bar & Lounge while enjoying a drink watching the sun set, and indulge in 3-starred French chef Antoine Westermann’s innovative haute cuisine, surrounded by the magic of the Vienna night.
A 'gourmet' spa menu reflects ancient traditions: a Japanese facial, Oriental massage, Indonesian body scrub ... with Parisian products by Cinq Mondes and Carita. Fitness centre. Bike rentals are available.
