Located in Marialva, Casas do Côro offers superb holiday houses fitted with a rustic, yet contemporary and stylish décor. Marialva is a national heritage site amongst amongst the he historic villages of Almeida, Castelo Mendo, Castelo Rodrigo, Linhares da Beira and Trancoso which can all be reached in just over an hour. The houses are spread over the village with a shared pool, restaurant, garden and even a chapel.
The interiors reflect the owner's love of antiques and country-style - and her own ritzy take on those themes. There are antique bedside table and dressers, retro-style bedside and standard lamps, chaise-longues, ottomans and ornate headboards. Beds are dressed with hand-embroidered sheets and chenille or quilted throws, there are masses of framed prints, vases of silk or cut flowers, books and magazines and essential oil diffusers. The extensive use of pine for floors, walls and ceilings imparts a cosy-cabin vibe.
All units offers a view over Marialva's historic houses, a well-equipped kitchenette or shared kitchen and a living room with fireplace. Some casas have just one bedroom, while others have more and can combined into one unit, excellent for families or a group of friends. Each house has a TV (some are flat-screened, others more traditionally chunky), DVD player, CD player, heating and airconditioning. Bathrooms either have a bath (some of the hydro-massage kind) or a shower room varying according to the original floor plans. Bathrobes, hairdyer and complimentary toiletries are included.
Guests can enjoy a buffet breakfast (included in the rate) with a choice of 4 home-baked breads, cakes and tarts, and different fruits, as well as 4 fresh juices, cereals, cold cuts, local yoghurts and cheeses and homemade jams whilst tea and coffee are served at your table. And you're welcome to order a cooked breakfast of your choice, too. Although you can self-cater, one of the reasons to come to Casas Do Côro's are it's wonderful dinners in the atmospheric dining room or alfresco by candlelight under the stars.
The sauna and hot tub offer the possibility to warm up after a refreshing dive in the pool, which is surrounded by lounge tents providing extra shade. The decked area above the pool is an inspirational spot for whiling away your days: you can even have a daybed made up and sleep beneath the stars. There is a tennis court and further, the area invites to walking, cycling and boating trips.
