In New York City, the flavor of the day for most boutique hotels has a few things in common — local accents, an uptown-chic-meets-downtown-grit vibe and a painstaking eye for the overall aura of the city. The design team behind the 124-key Hotel Hugo didn’t see anything wrong with that, but designer Marcello Pozzi wanted to add an additional influence to enrich the aesthetic: old-world Italian craftsmanship and materials.
So, alongside the industrial elements and the references to early-20th-century architecture, the hotel’s interior is polished up with accents like Italian walnut paneling. Travertine walls and marble flooring help flesh out the material part of Pozzi’s vision. A glass façade and garden walls help bring a more modern edge.
The same focus on elegant wood tones carries through into the guestrooms. Room facilities include a private bathroom with shower or bathtub, air conditioning, cable TV, coffee machine and a minibar. Some rooms have Hudson River views.
Hotel Hugo offers an an a la carte Italian restaurant, a rooftop bar, and a fitness centre.
