1898 The Post is a boutique property located on the upper floors of Ghent's historic post office building in the city centre on Graslei. Built between 1898 and 1910, the building was designed by architect Louis Cloquet in collaboration with Stéphane Mortier for the 1913 World exhibition. The building is eclectic in style, with predominantly Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance influences, echoing the façade of the Gildehuis der Vrije Schippers along the Graslei Canal. The last service counter in the post office closed in 2001.

All guestrooms are decorated in a warm style with high ceilings, dark green walls and antique furniture that complements the building's late 19th century architecture. The natural, earthy colours used throughout the scheme combine to create a local sense of place, and offers guests the relaxed feeling.

"The Kitchen" is a shared area to relax, work, or enjoy a nice cup of coffee and boasts an open fireplace overlooking Ghent. The Kitchen offers an American buffet breakfast, a selection of fresh and seasonal light dishes for lunch and homemade pastries for afternoon tea. There is also a cocktail bar "The Cobbler", named after the special type of cocktail shaker. The hotel's world-class bartenders offer a creative range of cocktails, as well as a selection of fine tapas and delicacies.
