The third hotel of the hip, Hamburg based, 25hours hotel chain in its home city, 25hours Hotel Altes Hafenamt is a quirky design hotel in set eye-catching red-brick building - once the Office for Electricity and Harbour Construction. Not to be confused with the HafenCity property (if you are looking for the very first 25hours hotel click here) the industrial aesthetic matches the Speicherstadt warehouse district nearby. The ‘luxe-maritime’ theme (think leather armchairs and outsized plants set against exposed brickwork and a cornucopia of anchors, globes and lifeboat rings) sets the tone with lasting memories of sailors from around the globe, and is watched over by the venerable figure of the old harbor master.

Stylish rooms feature nifty touches like headboards fashioned from old doors, artful black-and-white photos and high-quality, vintage-style chairs, lamps and tables. All come with king-size beds and an array of mod-cons such as Nespresso coffee makers, bluetooth speakers, flat-screen TVs and iMac workstations, as well as rainfall showers.

The hotel's restaurant offers dishes with Persian, Arabic, Moroccan, Israeli and Turkish influences. Next to the restaurant is the buzzy Boilerman Bar, whose upbeat music policy and great cocktails have made it a firm favourite with locals. There is a fitness room with a terrace, and guests have access to the sauna at the sister HafenCity Hotel. (Pelago) bicycle rentals (some rooms complimentary).
