Some old, some new: Vincci The Mint is an interesting new hotel concept located smack in the heart of Madrid on Gran Vía. A gastrobar at street level serves gourmet breakfasts until 23:00 (yes that is 11 - PM) plus drinks and food all day, a rooftop lounge with foodtruck, luggage handlers, room service (who said we could do without?) and a drink from the bar at check-in. Call us old-fashioned, but we like. Rooms too, mix old and new. Petrol hued walls, parquet floors, faux gold taps and look at those fold-away coffee tables. A-la-carte breakfast, no buffet. Madrid, here we come.
• 88 rooms & suites
• Hotel opened: March 2016

The DNA: Designed by the renowned Jaime Beriestain, Vincci The Mint occupies an elegant, early 20th-century building and lives up to its name with cool green shades throughout, from peppermint to pistachio, pea, lime, olive and emerald. There are perky fabrics in reds, blues and shimmery metallics too. The lobby, bar and lounge are one very appealing space where it is tempting to linger with a coffee or a drink at any time of day, gazing idly at the hubbub out on the Gran Vía from a leather armchair or a comfy sofa.
