A striking mix of a baroque/rococo palace and a post modern addition, this Pousada is truly breathtaking. Opened in may 2009 (I stayed january 2010) the Versailles style gardens are not completely renovated yet, but the hotel is completely up-and-running. We had a very warm and personal welcome and were lead to a huge, contemporary room. Amazing views all the way down to Faro and the Atlantic Ocean on the horizon. Very comfortable beds and also the bathroom was huge with a bathtub and powerful massage shower. Sadly the weather was so so, so we could not use the outdoor pool, which nevertheless looked very inviting. As this is one of the Pousadas latest members it has a spa with a small indoor pool, steam baths, sauna and massage. The restaurant, like all Pousadas restaurants, serves topnotch local cuisine. The bar is located in the Palace itself with some amazing high ceilinged rooms. Breakfast was excellent with huge choice. In all an excellent stay. If you like the Pousadas with their serene atmosphere and historic surroundings, you will certainly like Estoi.
