Villa Copenhagen

Nordic Choice Hotels, with headquarters in Oslo, Norway will convert Copenhagen’s former central post office, into a luxury hotel in a 1.3 billion Danish crowns (€175/$190 million) project. The hotel, Villa Copenhagen, is slated to open in 2020.

The Central Post Building -opened in 1912- is designed in Neo-Baroque style, one among several styles which, as a reaction to the dominance of Historicism in Danish architecture, won popularity in the beginning of the 20th century in Denmark. The building is situated next to Copenhagen‘s central railway station and Tivoli Gardens. The Town Hall Square and waterfront are just a few minutes’ walk.

With over 25,000m2 (270,000 square foot), the hotel plans to have 380 guest rooms spread over three floors. The guest rooms are reportedly being designed in a modern style while carefully maintaining and reflecting the unique history of the property by way of artwork and decor. The hotel will boast five restaurants, a brasserie, wine and cocktail bar, and a wellness center.

Nordic Choice, owned by Norwegian investor and billionaire Petter Stordalen, operates some 188 hotels in Scandinavia, Finland and the Baltics under US Choice Hotels International brands Comfort, Quality and Clarion. Some hotels are individually operated, like the Skt. Petri in Copenhagen and The Thief in Oslo.
