*** Update: the hotel is taking reservations from October 15, 2019 and beyond ***
The Great Scotland Yard Hotel in London is set to be the first UK hotel to join Hyatt’s Unbound Collection. Located in the St James’s area of Westminster, the Grade II-listed building is being developed into a 153-bedroom luxury lifestyle hotel and is expected to open at the end of this year.
The hotel was originally due to open in 2016 as a 235-bedroom property operated by Morgans Hotel Group under its Hudson brand. Later American hotel operator Andre Balazs was said to be involved. It was then announced in 2015 that German hotel group Steigenberger would enter the UK for the first time and take over the management of the property with an anticipated 2017 opening. Steigenberger’s appointment was announced as the developer Galliard Homes completed a £110m deal to sell the site to Abu Dhabi-based LuLu Group International, which acquired the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian – earlier this year for £85m.
Investment firm Twenty14 Holdings, the hospitality investment arm of LuLu Group, still owns the property, however Steigenberger is no longer involved.
The historical character of the former Metropolitan police headquarters, built in 1910, will be preserved throughout the renovation, including the maintenance of its original façade. Once open, the hotel will feature “sophisticated” food and beverage outlets.
