The QVEST marries neo-Gothic architecture with a museum-worthy collection of modern design, art, and photography.

district: Altstadt

Situated on a quiet square in the heart of Cologne’s Old Town, THE QVEST is designer hotel set in a neo-Gothic building from 1897. The owner of Qvest magazine, Michael Kaune, purchased the former historic city archive in the shadow of the Basilica of St. Gereon and turned it into a private art gallery where his love of modern art, design and contemporary photography manifests itself.

The boutique hotel’s furniture is by Charles and Ray Eames, Arne Jacobsen, Corbusier, and Mies van der Rohe, making it a mid-century and Bauhaus lover’s dream.

Rooms come with a minibar and a modern bathroom, a small library of art, design, and past editorials of QVEST magazine. Original photographs by Roxanne Lowit, Marina Gadonneix, George Holz, and many others adorn the walls in lieu of television sets. Some of the suites boast impressive five-meter-high ceilings, dark-oiled oak-wood parquet floors, original stuccoes, a grand piano and/or a handsome bar.

Amenities include a chic bar, and a library with a lounge. Breakfast is served daily in the stylish restaurant, which also offers drinks in the evening. Guests will find numerous cafés, bars and restaurants within a 2-minute walk of the hotel.
