district: San José del Cabo
Tucked in the foothills of San José del Cabo is Acre, a lush sanctuary set on 25 acres of abundant greenery. Think of this hip hideaway on an organic farm as the antidote to Mexico’s more over-played beachfront resorts. If it is beach you’re looking, the hotel’s shuttle will take you in 5 minutes to the El Ganzo Beach Club, which has one of the few swimmable beaches in Cabo.
Nestled in a canopy of palms, the resort’s treehouses are accessible via foliage-bedecked paths, offering complete privacy. Clad in screening of thin sticks sourced from local palo de arco trees, the wood-floored, cement-roofed suites – which look a bit like cubist, modernist birds’ nests from the outside – allow breezes to flow through and natural light to filter in. Heavy canvas curtains can be drawn around the inside of the walls if you’d like it to be darker. Interiors feature lots of local décor touches – think handwoven bedspreads and cactus in macrame plant hangers. All come with a private bathroom, a spacious patio, an outdoor shower, a curated minibar, a flat-screen TV and a mosquito net. One deluxe double unit is connected by a suspended bridge.
Room rates include a daily two-course breakfast, and morning yoga. Enjoy award-winning cocktails by the pool, play a game of badminton or bocce, explore the organic gardens, and get to know the menagerie of animals on-site. There is an excellent restaurant and massages can be arranged by the pool or on your private patio.
