Eynsham Hall | Oxfordshire

2022: Eynsham Hall | Oxfordshire, England

Ennismore, the owner of the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland and the Hoxton Hotels brand, has bought the 135-room Eynsham Hall country house hotel in Witney, Oxfordshire for a reported £10 million (£74,000 per key) from the Cathedral Group. The hotel has planning permission for 80 new guestrooms, purpose-built conference facilities for 250 people and a new spa complex.

I definitely see the potential, either for a grand hotel in the style of Gleneagles or a hip Hoxton-in-the-country. What do you think?

Eynsham Hall is a Grade II listed and is located near North Leigh in Oxfordshire. Built in 1780 as a Georgian house, it was demolished in 1904 and rebuilt as a Jacobean style mansion in 1906-1908 by Ernest George for the Mason family who took up residence in 1866.

During World War II a section of Eynsham Hall was used as a maternity ward for expectant mothers evacuated from London. Referred to as the “flak shack”, it was also used for rest and relaxation (R & R) by the U.S. Army Air Corps officers. From 1946 the site was used as a Police training centre by the Home Office

Currently the hotel is closed for renovations with a planned re-opening in 2022.
