Hotel St. George | Helsinki

The Area: Hotel St. George is located right next to the Old Church Park in Helsinki‘s city centre. The famous white Cathedral is a 10-minute walk away.

The DNA: Although a new hotel, the St. George in Helsinki is set in a classic building completed in 1890 with parts going back to the 1840s. Designed by architect Onni Tarjanne, who was also responsible for the Finnish National Theatre, the building played host to the Finnish Literature Society and as printing house for the first Finnish newspaper, Suometar. The hotel is home to an international as well as Finnish art collection which can be admired throughout the hotel, including guest rooms. Run in collaboration with such renowned institutions as the Helsinki Art Museum and the National Gallery, the program showcases a large-scale dragon sculpture by celebrated Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and a six-metre-long bird by Finnish sculptor Pekka Jylhä.

Suite-Me-Up: The stylish contemporary rooms come with air-conditioning, luxurious king sized beds by Duxiana and a minibar with healthy refreshments. Bathrooms have rain shower and/or tubs and a variety of spacious suites feature a balcony or furnished terrace. The St. George suite on the 3rd floor (main photo), is the uncontested crown jewel of the hotel.
