Hotel St. George | Helsinki

Although a new hotel, the St. George in Helsinki is set in a classic building completed in 1890 with parts going back to the 1840s. Designed by architect Onni Tarjanne, who was also responsible for the Finnish National Theatre, the building played host to the Finnish Literature Society and as printing house for the first Finnish newspaper, Suometar.

The hotel is home to an international as well as Finnish art collection which can be admired throughout the hotel, including guest rooms. Run in collaboration with such renowned institutions as the Helsinki Art Museum and the National Gallery, the program showcases a large-scale dragon sculpture by celebrated Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and a six-metre-long bird by Finnish sculptor Pekka Jylhä.
