The Savoy Palace has made its debut in Funchal, expanding and elevating the Savoy Signature portfolio, a family-owned collection of hotels and resorts on the scenic Portuguese island of Madeira. It is the third incarnation of the historic Savoy Hotel, which originally dates back to 1912 and was later replaced in the 1960s and closed in 2009.
The local team of RH+ Arquitectos and the prominent Madeiran interior designer Nini Andrade Silva designed the modern “palace hotel”, which is a member of the Leading Hotels of the Word.
The massive 16 floor, 352-room resort offers ocean and garden views with striking design that blends bold, modern and Belle Epoque styles. The resort’s common areas are bold and inspirational with the emphasis on colour, sinuous curves suggesting plant forms, animals and women, as well as ornaments based on Art Nouveau.
Facilities include an 11-room destination spa inspired by the island’s Laurissilva Forest (a UNESCO Heritage Site), as well as a number of restaurants and bars, a kid’s club, and various impressive swimming pools.
The spacious rooms and suites (40-260m2) at Savoy Palace all feature balconies, striking contemporary interiors, customised fabrics and made-to-measure furniture. There is a wide range of suites, some with their own swimming pools, and an impressive presidential suite with panoramic views. The resort also includes 226 apartments.
