Mr C Miami – Coconut Grove

district: Coconut Grove

Yacht culture comes ashore at Mr C Coconut Grove…

Understated is not in the vocabulary of Miami, which is what makes the balance of its varied history and design-driven urban sensibility so remarkable. As a response to Miami’s sumptuous aesthetic, the new Mr C Coconut Grove, conceived by Martin Brudnizki Studio in collaboration with Miami’s Arquitectonica, celebrates the city’s midcentury heyday as well as the idyllic ports of Venice with a foot in both the past and the future.

“We wanted to recreate the feeling of sailing on the open waters,” says Martin Brudnizki, founder of the New York- and London-based firm. “The interiors have been inspired by the honesty and materiality of a classic yacht as well as a carefully layered style of midcentury Italy.”

The stately interiors convey the nautical influence through timber-paneled moments in the lobby to a chic palette of blue and white that complements high-gloss and chrome surfaces. Soft curves also wrap the interior with circular forms further echoing the yacht theme. “We also included porthole-style windows, lending a whimsical touch to the scheme,” Brudnizki says.

Italian modernism is also the muse for much of the onsite design, with details like Murano glass chandeliers “channeling the feeling of a stylish Italian yacht,” he says. Beyond the 100 guestrooms, where blue leather headboards serve as a key focal point, a maritime glamour reigns in both the midcentury-informed pool deck  and the fifth-floor Bellini Restaurant and Bar. Here, views of the harbor are framed by floor-to-ceiling windows, while terrazzo energizes the venue’s high-gloss limed oak paneling, revealing a decadent interpretation of Italian luxury.
