First opened in the 1960’s, Le Mas de Chastelas has always been a favourite of the intellectuals and artists coming to Saint-Tropez. Full of character and meticulously decorated in Provençal and classic Italian style, it remains untill today one of the coolest places in Saint-Trop’.
Distributed over two villas and an original 18th-century “mas” in a 30.000m2 lush garden, there are 14 deluxe rooms and 9 suites. Some offer a balcony, others a terrace with direct pool access and some both. The spacious rooms are equipped with a bathroom (including shower and tub), a king or queen size bed, a desk, a flat screen TV, free wi-fi, air conditioning, a mini-bar, and a safe. A third bed can be added in some rooms.
What would be the Provence without eating? Fresh quality food is served all day between 12:00 and 23:00. This non-stop service includes lighter meals and salads for lunch. Breakfast is as flexible, no need to rise early.
From May to September there is a complimentary shuttle to Saint-Tropez and the beaches. For the sportsmen, the hotel, situated near the 18 holes golf course of Gassin (the hotel has its own private pitching green), and the Polo Club of St-Tropez – Gassin, puts also two tennis courts at the disposal of its guests.
Le Mas de Chastelas offers the luxury of wide spaces and a restful tranquillity, just a few minutes away from the excitement of the magical Saint-Tropez.

The DNA: Le Mas de Chastelas opened in 1967 and quickly became a legendary hotel in Saint-Tropez. It has hosted many French artists, thinkers and actors. Claude Berri filmed with Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu his film Je Vous Aime here, and Serge Gainsbourg played piano for Jane Birkin. It is one of the oldest hotels in Saint-Tropez, along with the Byblos, Résidence de la Pinède and La Ponche.
The Mas (which means “farmhouse” in Provençal) is set on over two hectares overlooking the Bertaud Belieu vineyards, most famous for its rosés – though its also produces quality reds and whites under the PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) Côtes de Provence.
The heart of the hotel is the 18th century former country home of the Bertaud lords, a remarkable architectural gem in Gassin, one of France’s “most beautiful villages”.
