district: Tavira town centre
A 19th century townhouse full of character, Casa Beleza do Sul is a charming guest house located in Tavira’s historic centre. The house is tastefully renovated by the owner, an architect together with a building company specialising in old building ecological renovation. Tavira, where life seems to go at a slower pace is probably the Algarve‘s prettiest city. The Gilão River, serenely flowing behind the Casa Beleza runs to the ria, the coastal lagoon full of birds life, which embraces the breathtaking white sandy beaches on the Atlantic.
Guests have a choice of four different accomodations, all spacious and full of light. They feature a flat-screen TV with cable channels, hairdryer, iron and a kitchenette. The duplex is a loft like open-plan space over two floors with the bedroom situated on the mezzanine. The Mosaic suite boasts original floor tiles, wooden ceilings and a seperate bedroom. As it name implies the Blue Suite, south facing, has walls painted in hues of blue and also features tiled floor and wooden ceilings. The latest addition, the studio has a cosy atmosphere.
Bathrooms are covered in tadelakt, a lime render from Morocco giving an exotic feel. The bathroom in the Blue Suite has an authentic “tesouro” pyramid-shaped roof made of wood and cane, particular for the city of Tavira.
The suites share two terraces, one on the same floor as the suites (which is furnished with a table and chairs – the perfect setting for dinner), and the other, at the top of the house, with sun loungers, shaded areas and a 360º view over the river and the city – a superb spot in which to relax at the end of the afternoon.
