After five years of renovations to a 100-year-old, heritage-listed mansion, Chinese lifestyle brand Beast and Danish design company Gubi have unveiled a boutique hotel and café on a quiet street in Shanghai’s former French Concession.
Designed by the two teams and local studio Chaos Programme, Beast x Gubi House’s interior reflects the buzzing city’s distinct blend of modern and historic – terrazzo, green marble accents and a muted palette of pale pink, cream and grey juxtaposed against the historic building’s original window fittings and roughly hewn wooden ceiling beams.
China is an important market and BEAST’s intelligence and insight, combined with a strong understanding and modern approach to reaching and inspiring young Chinese consumers, make them the perfect partner. This exciting project is already deepening our existing collaboration.– Jacob Gubi Olsen, Owner and Chief Creative Officer of GUBI.
All in all it’s an artful setting to showcase Gubi’s elegant furniture and lighting pieces, which outfit the sleek, three-storey property’s two guestrooms, penthouse event space and ground-floor café. Contemporary artworks curated from Beast’s own collection add to the intimate, residential ambiance, as do views of the charming private garden, which you can leisurely take in at the café from the comfort of a Gubi Beetle Chair.
