An outstandingly ‘dimora di charme’, Palazzetta del Vescovo is a small boutique hotel located in the center of Umbria, “Italy’s green heart”, making it an ideal location for visiting the most important sights in the region. The palazetta sits on a hill and boasts breathtaking views of the Tevere (Tiber) Valley. From 1763 to 1861, it was the summer residence of the Bishop of Todi.
The individually decorated rooms, in a classic country house-style are located on the first and second floors of the historic residence while the ninth room is located on the ground floor of the adjacent cottage. Carefully chosen colors (cream, red, gold, burnt umber, ochre) and materials (rustic walnut beams, terracotta tiled floors, antique mirrors, ornate beds and handmade Montefalco linens) create a warm and comfortable atmosphere. All rooms are non smoking and come with air conditioning, a flatscreen satellite TV, a safe, a Nespresso machine, a kettle and free mineral water. Bathrooms have terracotta floors, a tub and/or large shower, marble (double) vanities, robes, slippers, a hairdryer, Acqua di Parma toiletries and a make-up mirror.
An attractive buffet breakfast (in the dining area or the panoramic terrace) includes homemade cookies and cakes, fruit, cereals, yoghurt, pastries, local cheeses and cold cuts, homemade jam and a selection of seeds, nuts and dried berries. In addition to espressos, American coffee, cappuccinos and a number of other hot beverages, a rich selection of prestigious Damman teas and freshly pressed juices are offered. Eggs are cooked to order. Fruit, water and soft drinks available for them throughout the day and in the afternoon, guests can enjoy pastries, teas and hot beverages.
After an aperitivo, enjoy owner Paola’s fabulous cuisine. She combines dishes from her Piedmontese roots with traditional Umbrian fare to create a tempting four-course table d’hôtes menu. Made of fresh, local and organic produce plus vegetables from the own garden. Palazzetta del Vescovo has an extensive wine cellar with over 130 Italian labels, with the largest choice being Umbrian varieties – small batch, hand picked by owner and professional sommelier Stefano. In summer, a light lunch of salads, cheeses and cold cuts can be enjoyed by the pool. On request, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals are prepared.
The magnificent infinity swimming pool offers a feast of senses: not only the heated water, but also the breathtaking views of the valley and the smells of the surrounding Mediterranean flowers and plants. Sun loungers and pool towels available. A bocce court (similar to British bowls and French pétanque) provides a gentle way to while away a sunny afternoon.
The DNA: Hailing from Turin, Paola and Stefano Zocchi worked for many years as managers in multinational companies, an experience which gave them the opportunity to travel and meet people of different nationalities and cultures. This helped them formulate the idea of one day realizing their dream: to create a place unique in its beauty and history; a place where they could welcome guests from all over the world in a warm and friendly atmosphere. In 2006, after a two year search and another two year renovation, they opened Palazzetta del Vescovo.
