district: Nanchawan
A previously ramshackle farmhouse snuggled amid the lush emerald green hills in China’s central Hubei province has been transformed by The Design Institute of Landscape & Architecture China Academy of Art into Nanchawan•Shiwu Tribe Homestay – a bijou, four-room guesthouse.

Reinforcing the original stone walls with a new steel frame and large glass windows that frame rural village views, the reimagined farmhouse is now a contemporary bolthole that makes the most of the bare stone walls with wooden ceiling beams and flooring, considered lighting and clean-lined furnishings.
Comprising two separated stone structures, which have been connected by a large glass and steel structure that serves as the house’s entrance, the ground floor features an open-plan café and lounge, while the four bedrooms are located above. Here, an understated palette of natural timbers and sisal rugs are highlighted with low-slung furnishings, stand alone bath tubs and boxed window seats.
While away your day here with a book, or head downstairs for a bite to eat or for some tea in the sunken living room, which surrounds the sleek ceiling hanging fireplace.
