Andaz West Hollywood | Los Angeles

The Vibe: A fairly quiet vibe since its days as a ‘rock&roll’ hotel.

The Area: Busy Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood

The DNA: Originally opened in 1963 as Gene Autry’s Hotel Continental, it has been a Hyatt since 1966. Once known as the “Riot House” (after the then name, Hyatt House) it was the preferred Los Angeles accommodation for touring rock groups, notably English bands Led Zeppelin, The Who and the Rolling Stones. The balconies (now enclosed) were made famous by stories of rock stars throwing televisions and of motorcycles driven along the hallways. After a renovation, the hotel opened as the Andaz West Hollywood in 2009 under Hyatt’s lifestyle brand.

Suite-Me-Up: There are 20 suites in total, but the Presidential Suite (photos below) is the pick of the crop. Designed in a glamorous Modern American style by Jonathan Adler it features a mural by artist Kelsey Montague.
