Cap Rocat | Cala Blava, Mallorca

Cap Rocat | Cala Blava, Mallorca

The Vibe: Secluded.

The Area: Located in a 19th-century fortress built for the surveillance of the Bay of Palma, and within a Protected Natural. It seamlessly blends into the landscape. Palma is less than half an hour drive.

The DNA: Complete with a drawbridge, crenellations and bunkers, Cap Rocat occupies a former military fortress on a spectacular cliffside site on the Bay of Palma. A great challenge in terms of its restoration, which involved transforming the facilities into a hotel as well as complying with the strict regulations governing a building declared a Heritage Asset and listed as a National Monument. The fort’s defensive paraphernalia provide a dramatic setting for pared-down boutique bedrooms, a dazzling infinity pool and two tempting restaurants. Palm trees and gardens soften the imposing structure. A restrained color palette complements the elegant curves and furnishings: teak shutters, sofas upholstered in linen, exposed stone, and vintage photographs of Mallorca.

Suite-Me-Up: The 24 barrel-vaulted rooms and suites once used to house munition or acted as shooting pads. They are decorated with a clever blend of contemporary and classic furnishings, and have their own private patio – to which breakfast (ham, cheeses, pan con tomate, coffee, and orange juice) is delivered in a hamper. most with beautiful sea views. Some suites have private pools.
