The Vibe: Industrial chic with a retro vibe.
The Area: In Cedofeita, an up-and-coming neighbourhood, home to Koolhaas’ Casa da Musica. Two metro stops are located within 2 minutes’ walk, while the city centre is a 15-minute walk.
The DNA: Casa do Conto (house of tales) is a spectacularly renovated 19th-century bourgeois home, typical of the style of Porto. A fire gutted the premises 10 days before the hotel was due to open in 2009 that led architects back to the drawing board to design the bold contemporary space that exists today. A muted colour palette of greys and whites and simple collections of vintage furniture and accessories plus photographs by local artists decorate the rooms and common areas. The basement floor includes a kitchen (which guests are free to use) and a dining area that leads to a pleasant back garden.
Suite-Me-Up: The cutting-edge designed guest rooms feature concrete walls and ceilings and are mixed with vintage furniture. Room facilities include air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a Nespresso machine, kettle, and a minibar. Bathrooms come with a shower, a hair-dryer, high-quality towels, slippers and bathrobes. Some rooms have balconies and/or kitchenettes. The room’s concrete ceilings have texts engraved by different authors, related to the city and its architecture.
