The DNA: Nils Demetz took over his parents’ family hotel Angelo Engel in Ortisei, South Tyrol, and inherited from his uncle the historic Classic Hotel Am Stetteneck. Under the condition that he would give the historic hotel (built as a post office in 1913) from his beloved, childless uncle a new future. Demetz is in love with the stately mansion on Ortisei’s main street. The rooms, dining room and lobby bar remain practically unchanged; and rightly so – cult film director Wes Anderson would be delighted with the 1980s atmosphere fused with a dash of Tyrol. In a time where we all stay in the same ‘concept’, it is refreshing to find this authenticity. Demetz did add his own personal touch to the place: at the bar, enjoy a glass of Amaro or a homemade gin.
