Element Detroit at the Metropolitan

The Vibe: Element by Westin is a Marriott brand aimed at longer stays and offering self-catering facilities. Most are set in new-builds, but this Element Detroit at the Metropolitan is very different set in a stunning repurposed building with a “Gotham” vibe to it.

The Area: Located near Grand Circus Park, Element Detroit is in the heart of the City’s Entertainment District, just three blocks from both Comerica Park and Ford Field.

The DNA: The 14-story Neo-Gothic Metropolitan Building was designed by the Detroit firm of Weston and Ellington and opened in 1925 as a jewelry emporium, housing diamond cutters, goldsmiths and silver workers on the upper floors and retail on the lower levels. Building on the success of the recently opened Aloft Detroit at The David Whitney, the restoration of the hotel’s exterior and a top-to-bottom renovation of the interior, preserves the elements of the Metropolitan Building’s original ornate lobby and mezzanine, and an outdoor patio on the 11th floor rear rooftop.
