The Vibe: Modernist Malbec.
The Area: A short distance outside the of Mendoza city (20km) at the foot of the snowcapped Andes.
The DNA: Entre Cielos is a working vineyard, producing Malbec. If you expect a rural lodge or French chateau-style, think again. This luxury boutique hotel is designed in a modernist fashion and decorated with a contemporary mix of wooden floors, concrete walls and designer furniture. Wine is also, of course, the focus at the hotel’s smart restaurant, Katharina, which serves international and Argentine dishes overlooking the pool and the rows of vineyards. The fine dining restaurant serves a fusion of Mediterranean, Asian and local cuisine, while heartier fare is available in the straightforwardly named Beef Club. A full buffet breakfast (included in the rate) is served daily with regional products and fresh juices. Rendered in minimalist concrete and slate, the spa is a meditative space and includes a hammam. Beauty treatments and different massages can be booked in advance. There are also unique wine therapies, including a body scrub using ground grapeseed and a soak in a vat of Malbec. Entre Cielos organizes wine tours, horse riding excursions through the vineyards and outdoor activities such as trekking and river rafting in the area.
Suite-Me-Up: All suites, which are named for different types of wine, are individually and impeccably designed: bathtubs take center stage in some rooms and giant world maps adorn the walls in others. Common throughout are design nods to the semirural setting (textured stone walls and wood furnishings), luxe extras such as 300-thread-count linens, and private terraces for taking in the Andean scenery. The Vineyard Loft Suite is a self-contained “pod” on stilts that elevate it above the vineyard, with far-ranging views in every direction, including up, for an impressive panorama of the night sky. The terrace features a jacuzzi for two.
