The DNA: The Graduate Columbus is set in Bollinger Tower, formerly an affordable housing project. Design throughout the hotel celebrates the undeniable pride that Ohioans have for the state and The Ohio State University with collegiate plaids, spirited colors and nods to historic figures and trailblazing alums. Inspired by the fact that eight U.S. commanders in chief were born in Ohio, the hotel lobby includes a variety of presidential details. The front desk resembles the 19-century Resolute desk used in the White House Oval Office. Behind the desk, a mural depicts national landmark Mt. Rushmore reimagined with iconic Ohio athletes: Jack Nicklaus, Jesse Owens, Katie Smith and Archie Griffin. A statement lighting installation made from silver instruments is a nod to Ohio State’s renowned marching band. The hotel offers Poindexter, Graduate Hotels’ signature all-day café serving coffee roasted from acclaimed Coffee Manufactory while the Columbus outpost also houses Shake Shack, a critically acclaimed, modern day “roadside” burger stand.
Suite-Me-Up: Guest room decor contrasts bold details with warm, residential design elements. Red plaid walls and school colors evoke an immediate sense of nostalgia. Honoring Ohio greats throughout, design includes references to Ohio senator and astronaut John Glenn as well as Olympic gold medalist and Ohio State alum Jesse Owens. A statement-making gold medallion hangs over guest beds in homage to Owens’ Congressional Gold Medal, while pillows imprinted with the year “1936” are a tribute to the four gold medals he won at the 1936 Olympic Games. Beds with leather headboards and white comforters are topped with blankets resembling the Ohio state flag, while mirrored window frames give the cozy rooms a sense of depth.
