The DNA: Hermitage Castelo’s French-Swedish artist owners Katarina Hallbäck Monnier and Jules Monnier have a passion for Lisbon. On a mission to renovate traditional and historical buildings for the benefit of the city, and to offer visitors a slice of authentic Lisbon living. The ethos is ‘Lagom’, a Swedish way of life meaning ‘just the right amount’ which extends beyond design. Mixing with Portuguese tradition in its exclusive historical buildings make for memorable stays in the heart of this enchanting city. Katarina’s vibrant oil paintings can be found at Casa Saint Jorge. The apartments are bright and comfortable, without being packed full of things or decorations. A perfect solution for individualists pur-sang, who can come and go any time they want and take advantage of self catering or discover a wealth of restaurants at the doorstep. A detailed welcome guide is available in the apartments, with the hosts being an email or phone call away to get in touch.
Casa Saint Jorge has been refurbished with equal amounts of love and attention to detail. It is located within the citadel of Saint George’s Castle, in the very heart of Lisbon, on the top of Alfama and Baixa. Adjacent is the Miradouro do Recolhimento, a public garden with one of the most impressive views of Lisbon. The 7 apartments are spread over four floors, and each has been renovated with maximum care and flair. Cosy and light, the walls are painted with Farrow & Ball, bathing the spaces in shades of yellow and blue-green. The downstairs apartments have a private patio and sleep while upper floor units sleep four and come with Tagus River views. All offer nights of absolute silence. Smart marble-clad kitchenettes and full kitchens feature cooking utensils, a dishwasher, electric stove, microwave, fridge freezer, coffee machine and toaster, so you’re well-equipped to self-cater.
