Kimpton Charlotte Square | Edinburgh

The Vibe: Instagrammable.

The Area: A prime position overlooking elegant Charlotte Square at the west end of George Street in Edinburgh’s New Town. Perfect for shopping, strolling or sight-seeing with Princes Street a minute away.

The DNA: Originally constructed as seven Georgian townhouses by 18th-century architect Robert Adam, the Kimpton Charlotte Squares interior is inspired by a fictional, well-traveled, and slightly eccentric Scottish gentleman. The layering of colors, materials, and patterns were chosen to create an eclectic feel, with elements like vintage suitcases, hats, and canes found throughout, including in the ornate vestibule and in the Map Room where historic maps from around the world adorn the walls. With open views of the sky, the light-filled original courtyard has been reclaimed as part of the hotel’s interior to form a lush garden under a new glazed roof with timber-clad columns and cantilevered mirrors to maximize the sunlight pouring into the space.

Suite-Me-Up: The rooms and suites are spread across three buildings, including the old block, the new wing, and the ‘wee hoose,’ a mini hotel within a hotel spanning four floors and are defined by saddlery and buckle embellishments, blue and gray leather, wing chairs, and ebony and gray stained oak cabinetry. They are full of character with fun and eclectic artwork in each room, with no two bedrooms the same.
