Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London

The Vibe: Grand Hotel, Asian light.

The Area: The hotel faces Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge on one side and the bucolic acres of Hyde Park on the other.

The DNA: Originally opened in 1889, the hotel caused outrage when it was built because local residents believed it was so high it would cast a shadow over the Hyde Park’s Serpentine. Weeks within re-opening after a major renovation in 2018, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park had to close again. Once again, it is open and it feels a new start for this legendary Edwardian Hotel. The design takes inspiration from the hotel’s royal heritage and peaceful parkside location, as well as the glamour of the early 20th century’s Golden Age of travel. The hotel has also installed a green living wall that surrounds the inner courtyard, providing calm interior views. The hotel has an extensive spa, art collection, two bars and the two-starred Michelin Dinner by Heston Blumenthal restaurant.

Suite-Me-Up: All rooms and suites are now more luxurious and comfortable than ever before, with art deco-inspired features including carefully curated artworks, and custom-designed furniture. Each of the hotel’s 40 suites range in size from the smallest, at 47m2, located within the turrets of the hotel, to the largest, at 397m2. The latter, located on the top floor, is a magnificent three-bedroom penthouse with private terraces. Comprised of two spacious interconnecting suites – The Mandarin and The Oriental – this superb accommodation offers guests expansive views of leafy Hyde Park and the London skyline.
