The Vibe: Modernist.
The Area: On Na Jomtien beach, 10km outside of Pattaya proper.
The DNA: In certain circles, when it comes to a sun, sand and sea holiday, Pattaya tends to get short shrift. All bets are off though with the arrival of the sleek MASON where Bangkok-based VaSlab Architecture has sprinkled 35 one- and two-storey villas across a lush tropical landscape dominated by views of Pattaya Bay. Alternate between hours spent shoreside on Jomtien’s powder-pale sands and time at the ray-catching rooftop pool, or recalibrating with sensuous treatments at the spa. Pattaya’s city lights offer plenty of distraction, but delectable surf and turf at the hotel bistro easily lures guests home for sunset-accompanied suppers on the terrace.
Suite-Me-Up: The rooms shy from Thai design tropes, opting, instead, for a Brutalist palette of grey washed concrete, angular lines, and sharp-edged ceiling cut-outs that cast diffused light into the bathroom, alongside stone and wood decorative pieces by Bangkok-based Dong Sculpture. Particularly covetable are the hand-cut vases by the local Angsila community of stone masons.
