Biyuan Hotel Anhui

Mi Yuan Hotel | Songcun, China

If you have been following my blog a little, you know that I am very into the latest generation of Chinese design hotels. Here’s another stunner, the Mi Yuan Hotel set in a bamboo forest in the province of Anhui, East China. The 22-room boutique hotel is designed by Shanghai-based JAXDA.

Raw materials, such as bricks, wood and bamboo from the area, connect the inside with nature outside. Bamboo too was used by the designers to create a cover the north façade reinterpreting the traditional architectural use of it in the region.

On the south side the bamboo shutters create a graphic play. Due to changes in temperature in the region, the diameter of the bamboo will vary with time, fracturing the organic surface of the bamboo and showing the wrinkles of time.

All the hotel’s rooms face south, and come with floor-to-ceiling windows and terraces, bringing the greenery outside in. Simple, minimalist lines make up the interiors, again giving greater importance to the exterior. Furniture was brought from the surrounding villages, and were restored, maintaining the character.
