The DNA: Park Hyatt Hangzhou towers 49 floors above the miXc high-end shopping mall which includes a metro stop of two lines (the West Lake in 20 minutes and the East high-speed train station in 15). Though lacking a central location, this luxurious hotel makes up with super sleek, stylish interiors and dazzling views. The designers reinterpreted the Ming Dynasty and Jiangnan styles envisioning a Chinese merchant’s mansion up in the sky with the frequent use of grey-veined marble that reminds of traditional Chinese landscape paintings, wooden floors, floral motive carpets, and lacquered wooden screens. The impressive split-level black granite swimming pool interspersed with marble is worth a visit, but while guests are there, they should also have a look at the too-cool-to-be real Forty8 whiskey bar sporting 48 different whiskeys by the glass on -you guessed it- the 48th floor. Spacious rooms invite to stay in and do some work from the impressive two-meter long desk with adapter plugs for every imaginable device, the complimentary fruit bowl, a minibar complete with locally grown longjing tea, as well as an unobstructed view of the city below. Bathrooms pick up the theme of veined marble from the common areas, giving the room a cool and sophisticated look. The freestanding bathtub and rain showers speak of latest technology and style, as do the Kallista faucets.
