The DNA: Set in an attractive 18th-century Canarian manor house, the Hotel San Roque is a boutique design hotel build around two patio’s. The owners have retained many original features and have juxtaposed ochre walls and polished wooden floors, roofs and balconies with contemporary art and a superb collection of Joseff Hoffmann, Le Corbusier, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Eileen Gray, Isamu Noguchi, Mies van der Rohe, Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen, and Gerrit Rietveld furniture. One of the courtyards has a swimming pool and there is a rooftop solarium with ocean and mountain views. Breakfast is by the pool with eggs cooked to order. Also by the pool, the restaurant offers Canarian and Mediterranean cuisine. Pre and after dinner drinks can be enjoyed in the Hoffman Lounge Bar which spills into the other courtyard.
Suite-Me-Up: Rooms come with a hydromassage bath and a flat-screen TV. Floors, ceilings and window seats are in polished dark wood; walls are in vibrant tones of warm crimson, teal or blue and are beautifully complemented by plain cream fabrics and contemporary art. The largest suite is set over three levels in the former watchtower and has its own rooftop terrace with fabulous views along the coastline.
