The Vibe: A “living room for Detroit” for the once down-and-out industrial city which now hosts an influx of young creatives and a good dose of American heritage.
The Area: Located on Detroit’s main shopping street, Woodward Avenue.
The DNA: Envisioned by local watches and accessories brand Shinola, the Shinola Hotel is set within three historic buildings, including a former Singer sewing machine store and the former T.B. Rayl & Co department store. Each of its elegant guestrooms features Shinola goods exclusively made for the hotel, such as a desk clock version of its signature Runwell watch, a striped alpaca throw blanket and a candle. Heavyweight chef Andrew Carmellini (of Locanda Verde and The Dutch fame, both in New York) heads up the southern-Italy inspired restaurant San Morello.
Suite-Me-Up: There is a large number of suites available (with rooms already spacious), including four penthouse suites. Pick of the crop would be the open concept design, Bedrock Penthouse featureing a separate bedroom, spacious living areas with a fireplace and dining area, as well as a stunning private balcony space overlooking Woodward Avenue.
