The Area: In the village of Paço de Sousa, a 30-minute drive from the centre of Porto. It is ideally located to discover the northern region of Portugal, with cities such as Guimarães, Braga and Amarante nearby.

The DNA: Solar Egas Moniz is a charming guest house set in a recovered 120-year old century “solar” or country mansion. Here a wealth of local experiences awaits: culture, local food and wines, hiking and cycling. Outside is an inviting garden with an equally inviting swimming pool surrounded by a terrace with sun loungers. Inside is a living room and library with a fireplace where guests can relax in a tranquil atmosphere and read a book or magazine. Dinner is on request and several local delicacies, tapas and taste wines from the extensive cellar, amongst them typical Vinho Verde’s from the region are served. A complimentary breakfast with local home-made products (natural juices, fruit, home-made jams and cakes) is awaiting in the mornings until 11:30.

Suite-Me-Up: The Solar has just ten contemporary, yet traditionally decorated rooms categorized in two themes: popular art and history. Room have lovely views over the valley and facilities include air-conditioning and a private bathroom with a hairdryer.
