Vibe: Contemporary-chic in a historic build.
Area: Pretty Thun is a popular pit-stop in the Bernese Oberland, 30km from Interlaken and 60km from Gstaad.
The DNA: Winner of the UNESCO architecture prize Prix Versailles 2017 (a global architecture prize for stores, hotels and restaurants) for its interiors, the petite Hotel Spedition is set in a former cheese warehouse. Interiors by multi award-winning Swedish design firm Stylt Trampoli reference the buildings former use. Crushed velvets, wing-back chairs, sultry woods, tree-lined wallpapers, artworks and designer lighting are smoothly married with playful whimsical touches – artefacts from umbrella handles and antique cobbler’s lasts to wine labels and model railway cars nod towards the wonderfully eclectic. The little library tucked away on the third floor has a hand-picked selection of Parisian books and suggestive pictures from bygone times.
Suite-Me-Up: The “Mini Suite” is the largest and is layered with heavy oak beams and wooden floors lending their weight of history. Earthy tones and natural materials, plum colours in deep velvets, richly decorated quilts and mahogany bureaus add to the visual drama and all-round classiness.
