The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel | New York

The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel | New York City

The Vibe: Straight out of an Agatha Christie set.

The Area: At the end of the Brooklyn Bridge, exceptional well connected with the city.

The DNA: Set in an architectural gem from 1883, and hailed for its iconic nine-story atrium and pyramidal skylight, The Beekman is a unique luxury lifestyle hotel still relatively new on the city’s hotel scene. The hotel has rapidly gained a reputation as one of New York’s most stunning – and rightly so. On the ground floor, underneath the atrium, the atmospheric Bar Room is straight out of an Agatha Christie set, all plump sofas, fringed table lamps, green leather-topped bar stools and a long glass case stuffed with conversation-starting curios. Eye-catcher is the whimsical kilim-draped front desk. There are New American and French eateries by renowned chefs Keith McNally and Tom Colicchio.

Suite-Me-Up: Furnished and decorated in a simpler, sleeker style than the public areas, the bedrooms nonetheless retain a vintage feel, with grand wooden wardrobes and chests of drawers, marble desks, leather armchairs, and a minibar cleverly hidden behind a tapestry table-skirt. The two ‘turrets’ at the top of the building house the penthouse suites. They have the feeling of romantic country cottages in the sky, with fireplaces, private terraces and a freestanding baths under the vaulted ceilings. 75 rooms are located in the new building next-door to the original building.
