The Vibe: A funky designer version of a budget, seaside hotel with a youthful, outdoorsy vibe.
The Area: In a prime position on one of the terraces favoured by the grand hotels of the Victorian era, Bike & Boot overlooks South Bay and the wooded ravine of Valley Gardens.
The DNA: Owners Simon Rhatigan and Simon Kershaw purchased the former Mount Hotel Scarborough in January 2019, and intend to roll out the Bike & Boot Inn – a “modern leisure” concept with “funky interiors” – initially across the North of England. Further expansion is planned in the Yorkshire Dales, Peak District or Lake District. The Scarborough hotel has 65 rooms, a hybrid bar-restaurant-café, and on-site facilities for dogs, walkers, bikers and surfers, including walking and surfing drying rooms, dog and boot wash area, and a bike storage. There is also an in-house cinema.
Suite-Me-Up: Spread over four floors (with one suite on the lower ground), the 65 rooms share the same stylishly spare design of fuss-free, pale-oak furniture, open hanging rails, exposed light bulb fittings and sober-coloured walls. But the feel is jazzed up with Missoni-style striped carpets, splashes of tangerine and sky-blue in headboards, radiators or giant Anglepoise lamps, and blinds printed with colourful vintage advertising posters of the town.
