The Box | Riccione, Italy

The Vibe: A 1950s hotel gone avantgarde in 2006 and back again to now.

The Area: Just two steps from the beach in Riccione.

The DNA: Following an overhaul by Marianna Chiaraluce and Alfredo Monetti of branding and strategy firm, Hospitality Mood, the shell of the formerly abandoned Hotel Sixty, in the seaside Italian town of Riccione, has been given a new lease of life as The Box. An eclectic, global mix of furnishings dot the property’s spacious public areas and 40 guestrooms. From the brass handmade lamps – courtesy of Lebanese lighting company PSLab – to bedside tables from Moroso, and seating from Knoll and Poland’s 366 Concept, international design cooperation is fully on display. Guests and locals alike are encouraged to start the day brunching on avocado toast and sipping on a tequila and coffee cocktail at MAD Inside The Box, the hotel’s restaurant led by chef Filippo Benelli. Here, pink Spanish tiles from Vives, serves as a foundation for the art deco wood and marble-accented bar, making it tempting enough to stay for more than ‘just the one’. Steps away, however, the umbrella-dotted shoreline of the pristine Adriatic coast beckons.

Suite-Me-Up: The Apartment Suite is the most exclusive space The Box. An open space of 80m2, for those who want to enjoy an ambience of special objects and vintage pieces, plus a large equipped terrace and sea view.
