A Palace Through Time

Hotel Caro occupies the former palace of the Marqués de Caro in Valencia’s historic centre. Its walls contain more than two millennia of architectural history: a Roman mosaic dating from the second century BC, sections of a twelfth-century Moorish wall, Gothic arches, medieval timber ceilings, and a nineteenth-century façade. Rather than smoothing these fragments into a single narrative, the restoration preserves their differences. History remains visible. Layer by layer.

Contemporary Design in Quiet Dialogue

Interior designer Francesc Rifé responded to the building with precision and restraint. Clean architectural lines, oak detailing, monochromatic surfaces, bespoke furniture, and carefully controlled lighting create a contemporary framework around the historic remains. New interventions are deliberately understated, allowing ancient stone, brick, timber, and carved details to retain their presence. Old and new never compete. They clarify one another.

Twenty-Six Rooms, No Repetition

Each of the 26 guestrooms has been shaped by the irregular architecture of the palace. Some incorporate sections of the Moorish wall, while others reveal timber beams, sloping ceilings, brickwork, or traces of earlier decorative schemes. Rifé’s custom furnishings introduce order without erasing individuality, and a muted palette of wood, stone, cream, and charcoal reinforces the sense of calm. There is no standard room. Every space tells a different story.

Dining Within the Architecture

The hotel’s restaurant occupies one of its most atmospheric historic spaces, where ancient walls and vaulted ceilings frame a contemporary approach to Valencian cooking. The menu draws on regional ingredients and culinary traditions while presenting them with modern precision. Nearby, the bar, library, courtyard terraces, and intimate outdoor pool offer quieter places to pause between exploring the city. The experience remains refined. Never formal.

Valencia Beyond the Door

Hotel Caro sits on a narrow street in the heart of the Old Town, just a short walk from Valencia Cathedral, the Turia Gardens, and the Mercado Central. Despite its central location, the palace feels remarkably secluded, creating a calm retreat within one of the city’s most historic quarters.
