Hidden behind an unassuming façade just steps from Piazza Navona, G-Rough quietly overturns every expectation of Roman luxury. Occupying a seventeenth-century townhouse, the hotel deliberately rejects polished perfection in favour of authenticity, allowing centuries of history to remain visible in every cracked plaster wall, faded fresco, weathered timber beam, and uneven floor. Created by seventh-generation Roman Gabriele Salini, the project celebrates the beauty of imperfection rather than attempting to erase it. Instead of restoring the building to an imagined ideal, architect Giorgia Cerulli carefully exposed its many layers, revealing traces of previous centuries that now form an integral part of the hotel’s identity. The result is not simply historic—it feels profoundly alive.

An Ode to Italian Design

Against this wonderfully imperfect architectural backdrop unfolds one of Rome’s finest collections of twentieth-century Italian design. Working alongside artist Benedetta Salini and designer Vittorio Mango, the interiors celebrate the country’s extraordinary creative legacy through original furniture dating from the 1930s to the 1970s. Each suite is dedicated to a celebrated Italian designer, with authentic pieces by Gio Ponti, Ico Parisi, Guglielmo Ulrich, Silvio Cavatorta and others carefully integrated throughout the spaces. Velvet armchairs, sculptural lighting, blown-glass lamps, brass detailing, marble tables, and rare vintage finds create interiors that feel effortlessly sophisticated rather than curated for display.
